Bergen orgelsommer - Bergen International Organ Festival - Espen Melbø in St. John's Church
Normally the most visible church in Bergen, St. John's Church is currently hidden behind scaffolding as it undergoes restoration. Inside, however, its splendour remains intact. Consecrated in 1894, the church houses a historic organ by Schlag & Söhne, restored in 1999 and cherished by organists for German Romantic repertoire. Espen Melbø is one of Norway's leading concert organists. He has held prominent organist positions in Leipzig and is currently the cantor of Tønsberg Cathedral. Melbø is renowned for his repertoire, which, in addition to standard works, also includes rare and lesser-known pieces.
