About this event

Normally the most visible church in Bergen, St. John's Church is currently hidden behind scaffolding as it undergoes restoration. Inside, however, its splendour remains intact. Consecrated in 1894, the church houses a historic organ by Schlag & Söhne, restored in 1999 and cherished by organists for German Romantic repertoire.

Hans Fagius has for many years been one of Sweden's most active concert organists. He regularly performs a large number of concerts, primarily throughout Europe, but he has also appeared on numerous occasions in North and South America, Australia, South Korea, and Japan. Hans Fagius has gained particular recognition as a prolific recording artist, above all through an extensive series of recordings for the Swedish label BIS. From 1989 to 2020, Hans Fagius served as Professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, and in 1998 he was elected a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in Stockholm, and in 2019 he was awarded the Royal College of Organists' Medal for his contributions to the art of organ music.

Musical comedy in broken english (Sjur Hjeltnes)

If Victor Borge and Bill Bailey had a lovechild. Norwegian pianist and comedian Sjur Hjeltnes brings his unique blend of musical comedy to the historic medieval cellar of Dyvekes Vinkjeller, just two minutes from Bryggen. Before bringing the show to the Edinburgh Fringe in August 2026, Sjur presents a series of performances in Bergen, combining virtuoso piano playing, absurd humour and broken English in a show unlike anything else in town. A perfect start to your evening in Bergen. This show is a celebration of useless and delicious things such as art, music and cake. Things that have no practical application whatsoever. Not sensible, smart and efficient things, but things that are pleasurable in the moment and then gone, like a symphony or a piece of chocolate. Join Sjur Hjeltnes as he tries to explain the meaning of life in broken English, strolling with the sun in his back and a glass in his hand. Taking you on a musical exploration of pleasure and happiness, completely contrary to the Norwegian Health Board recommendations. Duration : Approximately 60 minutes Language : English About Dyvekes: Dyvekes Vinkjeller is one of Bergen's most atmospheric venues, tucked away at Hollendergaten 7, just a block from the Bryggen waterfront and the Fish Market. The show is downstairs - reached by a narrow staircase - in an old stone wine cellar with a history reportedly stretching back to the 1300s or 1400s. The room is full of charm and atmosphere, with low ceilings covered in original wood beams, thick stone walls, and the low light of candlelight giving it a genuinely medieval feel. It's often described as the oldest remaining pub in Bergen, and is a vibrant spot for concerts, alongside a good beer and wine list.
